Excerpt – The Black Rocks of Morwenstow
“Josh Weyland, at 25 in 1842, is a sailor without a ship. He is beached in the American port of Key West when the ship on which he was serving as Third Mate is wrecked on the treacherous coral reefs which stud the waters of the Gulf of Mexico.
While his skipper faces a charge of the deliberate wrecking of his vessel , Josh ships as watch keeper on board the brig Lucy, bound for England to marry his fiancé Mary.
But a fierce storm hurls the ship onto the cruel rocks which stretch out into the Bristol Channel from the little Cornish village of Morwenstow. Josh is hauled ashore as the only survivor and so begins his quest to answer the question: was the Luicy deliberately lured onto the rocks by a “false light” shining from the cliff face?
As a result, he is plunged into a dark world of smuggling, treachery and murder – plus romance – in an England about to change as the industrial revolution takes hold.”
